TAYLOR SWIFT’S ‘FOLKLORE’ ALBUM BREAKS STREAMING RECORDS
“folklore,” Taylor Swift’s new, surprise, album, has already broken a string of streaming records. “folklore” sold over 1.3 million copies around the world within the first 24 hours of its release. The album also broke records on Spotify, Apple Music, and Amazon Music. “folklore” has created a new record for first-day album streams on Spotify by a female artist, having prompted 80.6 million streams. Similarly, the record has also become the most-streamed album on Apple Music in 24 hours, achieving 35.47 million streams in a single day. “folklore” has created a new benchmark on Amazon Music, too, setting an indie/alternative streaming record in the US and worldwide. After making a surprise announcement Thursday morning, the singer officially released her eighth studio album, along with a music video for her new single “Cardigan.” Meanwhile, Taylor gifted the late Kobe Bryant’s 17-year-old daughter Natalia Bryant with a cozy cardigan sweater in honor of the release of “Folklore.” The wardrobe staple is a replica of the one Swift wears in the video for “Cardigan.” The teen told Swift she was “obsessed” with the new album, which Swift has promoted by sending sweaters to the likes of stars like Jonathan Van Ness and Jennifer Hudson. Embroidered with light gray stars on the elbows and featuring title patches on the front, the piece is for sale along with the digital album on Swift’s personal website for $49.
