Charlie Puth was probably just starting preschool when Friends hit the air in 1994, but when Phoebe and Monica got together over the weekend to celebrate the show’s 25th anniversary, the “How Long” singer was right there with Lisa Kudrow and Courtney Cox for a classic snap to celebrate the iconic sitcom’s silver jubilee.
The actresses gathered to celebrate the Sept. 22, 1994 debut of the show with Puth and director/producer Judd Apatow on Sunday with Cox captioning a photo of the foursome, “trying to play it cool with all this heat #friends25,” with Apatow’s 16 year-old daughter Iris commenting, “this photo is intimidating.” The show, of course, has become hugely popular on streaming services with Gen Z watchers, so Iris’ mind blown reaction is apt.
Puth also posted the pic and Us magazine pointed out that the mystery surrounding the singer’s spot in the snap makes sense if you know that he’s reportedly been dating Charlotte Lawrence, whose father, Bill, created another Cox series, Cougar Town. And while nobody is suggesting that a show reboot might benefit from the injection of some fresh Puth blood, Katy Perry reacted to the photo with the question, “Cast of Friends revamp?”
It’s been a week of Friends fangirling, with Meghan Trainor covering the show’s theme song to celebrate the anniversary earlier this week and the Jonas Brothers paying homage to the series’ iconic opening.
